Among the verbs taking an infinitival complement in Italian, there are some which apparently exhibit anomalous properties with respect to certain syntactic phenomena. Known as restructuring verbs, they act as a unitary class, triggering clitic climbing as well as auxiliary change, and long NP-movement. The major aim of my investigation will be to find out how the morphosyntactic features of these grammatical verb-based constructions interact with their semantic features. The interplay with the pragmatic aspects of these constructions will also be investigated. The analysis relies on corpus-based data and will be developed within the framework of Role and Reference Grammar.
